With the fate of last season's squad now out of the way, Stevie Crawford can now concentrate on strengthening the team for the forthcoming campaign.

Defence is clearly his key interest at present and following on from the excellent signing of defender John Ovenstone earlier this month, East Fife have now added goalkeeper Stuart Baillie.

Baillie joins from East Region Premier League side Arniston Rangers.

We're still trying to get more info about Stuart's time at, and before, Arniston, but we know that he was at Newbyres Park from at least the 2005/06 season and has made over 120 appearances for the Gers.

The 6 foot 4 inch tall stopper is 23 years old and without wanting to put too much pressure on him, he's highly thought of in the Junior game and is said to be a good shot stopper, has great hands in general and strong kicking. He is also reportedly good at making himself big when facing attackers and is commanding in the box. Everything you could want in a keeper really!

If you google him, you'll find match report after match report praising his important saves in various games.

With Willie McCulloch being freed by the Club at the end of the season, cover for the goalkeeping position was a possible worry. There is no doubting that Stuart will be pushing Michael Brown all the way for the number one jersey and it should make pre season very interesting in that regards.

If you want to get a taster of what we can expect from Stuart then check out the You Tube clip below where Stuart saves a hat trick of penalties in a shock East of Scotland second round cup penalty shoot out win against Linlithgow Rose in November 2008.

Excellent stuff there. Let's hope to see more of the same in an East Fife jersey this coming season and beyond.

Welcome to the East Fife family Stuart.
